Keane’s Concert in Shepherd Bush

keane-in-shepherd-bush

John bought Keane‘s tickets for my birthday gift in March, and finally this is the night. We went there at 6 pm, and there were already many people queueing, and luckily we got the great seats to see them very clear. Surprisingly, there were many middle-age fans to see Keane as well.

The show was to celebrate 50th birthday of the Island Record Company. The island members took all the fans pictures and said it will post it their website, can’t wait to see myself in there. The show was started at 7 pm, and the warming brand was Ladyhawke, she sang about 8 songs, and she performed well, however, the microphone could be louder because audiences could not hear her voice clearly.

When Keane came out, the whole stadium was crazy with a lot of applause. Keane sang about many songs from first album Hopes and Fears including ‘everybody is changing’, ‘ We might as well be stranger’ , and ‘somewhere we only know’; then ‘crystal ball and ‘nothing in my way’; then many songs from third album as well including ‘again and again’,’perfect symmetry’ and ‘spiralling’…

Tom’s voice was absolute amazing and with his professional performance. He talked to audiences, even shook hands with audiences, and asked audiences to sing with him as loud as they could, (to be honest, every audiences could easy burst out everyone song from Keane). The background lights, the band performance and the atmosphere was stunning. It felt likes that Keane music was melting with audiences voices, and everyone was so indulging into their music and lost themselves.

Their music was so perfect and ‘ I lost my heart, I buried it too deep into the under the iron sea’. It was a remarkable concert and I wish they will continuously create great music.

I recorded one song on the spot only for one of Keane’s best fans from GZ – Syrinx Ye.

Ingrid Michaelson

ingrid-michaelson

Discovered Ingrid Michaelson while I am listening in last.fm. so I gave it a try, then I became her fans instantly, and like her three of main albums. Her style is like Sia, Feist, and Priscilla Ahn, which is female vocalists, acoustic and indie pop. Moreover, her song called “Little Romance” was also in Sex And The City Volume 2.

Coincidentally, I just saw information in last.fm which states that in September 2008 she supported Jason Mraz during his European tour. Surprisingly, she will perform in Hammersmith Apollo in next Monday 27th April in London, however, I am not sure I can make it. But I do appreciate her music. Here are her main albums names:

  • Girls and Boys
  • Be OK
  • Slow the Rain
  • This is her Myspace, and you can listen her music in last.fm.

3张专集都超好听:最新张叫:Girls and Boys,然后是 Be OK,我的最爱:Slow the Rain. 她的一首 ‘Little Romance’ 还是电影原声带 Sex And The City 选播之一!

    Jason Mraz in Hammersmith Apollo

    jason-mraz-concert-in-london

Discovered Jason when he had released his first albumMr. A-Z in 2006, and since then, his music is pleasure to listen to. Friends saw Jason performed in HK last month, and said it was an amazing concert. So we finally arrived Hammersmith Apollo last night, where there were many young fans already standing outside, trying to get the good spots to see Jason. We also lined up before it might get too late.

It started at 7: 30, and surprisingly, Jason came out and introduced the warm-up bands, one was Priscilla Ahn, who also sang with Jason for the song called “Lucky” later on. I like Priscilla’s music and her voice was pretty good.

After 8: 30, the whole concert was full. When Jason came out, fans started getting so crazy to welcome him. He basically sang his latest album – We Sing, We Dance, We Steal Things. When he and Priscilla were singing “Lucky”, then “I’m Yours”, all the fans were singing together and it was a fantastic atmosphere!

Overall, Jason performed very well, and he gave fans many surprises. We did enjoy his concert and look forwards his new album soon. (Jason cover picture is from Flicker.com)

    Mew

    mew

I have been searching some new music recently, and thanks for my friend Syrinx introduced Mew. Mew is a band from Denmark, established in 1995 with a musical style that is best described as a combination of indie rock and progressive rock (with shoegaze and dream pop influences). I have been listening their music these week and I like their album a lot, and highly recommend to you if you like indie rock.

Best albums: And The Glass Handed Kites and Frengers
    Best songs:

  • Zookeeper’s boy

  • You can hear their songs in last.fm here for free or visit their myspace.

    Recent entertainment

    tv-music-recent-entertainment

After the Christmas break, school has started, and now it has become very busy with essays and exams again. The weather feels like approaching Spring. I can’t wait to see the spring and summer coming.

Despite the heavy-loaded school works, I still manage to squeeze some time to watch some TV programmes and music for relaxation.

    Dexter Season 3

Dexter season three was 5 stars, and actually I love it since the season one came out. It is a cohesive drama with complex characters and stories. Each season has its theme about Dexter. First season is to find out who was Dexter, second season is that Dexter found out who is he and season 3 is what he wants to be. There is an exciting news to know that they are producing the season four. I wonder what is the theme in season four about Dexter?

    Battlestar Glactica

Then following the remarkable dramma is Battlestar Galactica – the final season. It will be sad to see the end of the 5 years accompany. It has many perspectives to see different layers of people’s personalities, with political bureaucracies, power, moral choices, conflict, emotion, and the hope to survive. It was a fantastic TV series. The stories sometime are complicated, dark, even depress in season three, however it shows people never give up their hopes. And It does portray many aspects of multifaceted human being. This is one of the reason I like this TV drama. “We” are complicated.

    Skins 2009

I Watched 2008 Skins last year. At the beginning, I thought it was one of those stereotypes teenage stories. However, it did surprise me that the story uses about 6 characters who is around 15 to 20 years old, describe the complex emotional problems of the modern young generation. It is a period for them to find out who they are and what they want to be. I guess everyone has the same experience when they grow up. They are passionate, energetic, and even troublesome. They sometime make mistakes, but they are still learning and the most important thing is to discover themselves. This is the story of skins. Of course, stories are basic on teenage in the UK, it might be a different culture as we grow up

    Music – Lily Allen

New album “It’s not me, it’s you” 4 stars out of 5. There are only few songs I think they are ok, the rest is very nice. Recommended!

The killers – Day & Age

It’s not new anymore, few months old now. The song “human” is controversy about the lyrics, but it is a very nice song and album! Good value!

    Sia Concert in Shepherds Bush

I discovered Sia Furler while we watched last episode of the TV series “Six Feet Under” a year ago. The song “Breath Me” is unforgettable and wonderful ending for the TV series. Thereafter, I have been listening Sia’s since then. Sia was one of the vocals in Zero 7 previously and went solo in 2005.

In Shepherds Bush Empire night on 9 Oct, the concert set decorated with toys and fluorescent, I guess it matches her third album’s image – funky and cartoonish. At the beginning, surprisingly, Sia and her band members all dressed up in a halloween skeleton outfit approaching the stage. Sia sang the most from the album “Some People Have Real Problems”, including Destiny and The Pageant of the Bizarre wrote for Zero 7. Sia used her popular hit ” Breath Me” end the show. The fans were so enthusiast with big applauses and on-call, and Sia moved into tears in the end.

Sia has a gorgeous, dusky voice, sometimes it reminds me as a Jazz vocalist. I enjoyed the concert and so pleased to see her performance.

I recommend her best album “Some People Have Real Problems”to you, especial “Breath Me”, “Sunday”, “The Pageant of the Bizarre” and “Soon We’ll be Found” – they are my favorites.

Here is her amazing music video of this song in Youtube: Sia-Soon We will be Found

Go to see more pictures of the concert in Flickr by Preamble . The cover picture was taken by him too.

    Last.fm

    last-fm1

I have been using lastfm for almost a year and I love it so much. last.fm is a UK base internet radio for music lovers to listen music, or explore similar artists. All you need to do is to apply for an account and add all your favorite artists in to the library. The system will look at your music taste and introduce more good music to you. You might find that other users will recommend various music to you as well.

The web site is stylish and very easy to use! Besides, it also has HK and Taiwan popular artists in Chinese.

I use it to play music when I surf the internet. I know there are a lot of similar websites, but I highly recommend this one to you.

    Feist in Royal Albert Hall

    Feist in Royal Albert Hall

Some people might have heard the song from the Apple Nano advert “1234”, but not known who sang it. The singer is Leslie Feist, from Canada. I am so lucky to have seen her perform in London at the Royal Albert Hall, which is situated in the Knightsbridge area facing Hyde Park. Before the concert we walked for a while in Hyde Park and it is huge, beautiful ,and peaceful.

The Royal Albert Hall was opened by Queen Victoria in 1871 in memory of her husband, Prince Albert. The exterior of the building is very distinctive and looks like a giant mushroom. We went inside and there was a guide to show us to our seats, which turned out to be a small private room containing four seats, as well as a private dressing table. I was so thrilled! The interior is amazing, with a huge open circular space in traditional English style. I felt like I was a princess watching some opera.

The show started at 8: 30 PM. Wearing a short white vintage dress with frilly sleeves and high top tennis shoes, Feist played most of her songs from the recent album. Set against a backdrop featuring a woman drawing live finger paint art, this was also a highlight of her concert. Nearly everything about the performance was flawless. She didn’t have any edgy voice, and sang with such dexterity and clarity. She can move from breathy to yelping to full-bodied and elegant. I have to say that her voice is so beautiful and powerful.

Feist was also a very good conversationalist, making jokes, and coercing the audience to join in various songs. It was hard not to like her, and it was a pity that she didn’t sing one of my favorite songs – “Secret Heart”.

Anyway, I am very pleased to watch her professional performance at the Royal Albert Hall. Absolutely it is worth five stars.

    Delays Concert in KOKO

    Delays Concert in KOKO

On the second day after I arrived in London I went to see the Delays play in concert at KOKO on Camden High Street. KOKO is a strange place – it is an old opera house, once one of the largest in London, and is spread over four floors. We chose to go to the first floor and look over the balcony where we could easily see the band. I have to admit that the concert was amazing and I enjoyed all the songs. Greg Gilbert, the lead vocalist, has a very special high voice and the atmosphere was very exciting. I can’t believe that he looks so young, but is so talented, to create so such distinctive music.

They have released three albums and my favourite album is “You See Colours”. One of their songs was featured in an episode of Veronica Mars.

    Here is their myspace page.

    Muse In Hong Kong

    Muse In HK

Last Saturday we went to Hong Kong to see Muse play in concert. It was one of the most amazing live concerts I’ve ever seen, and over six thousand people came to see them at the Asiaworld Expo centre.

We went there about 7 o’clock (concert starts at 8pm) and already fans were queuing up and hoping to get a good position. The setting was perfect, with stars on be the background just like “starlight”. The drummer sitting in the middle, Matt standing on the left, and base guitar on the right. There was very little space between the stage and fans so the early queuers got a real treat.

Muse played most of the new album, with a good selection of earlier music (including one from the first album). Matt Bellamy is an extraordinarily musician and singer, leaping from guitar to piano without blinking. The crowd feedback peaked during “Time is running out” with everyone joining in. The last song saw five giant balloons descend from the sky, with everyone trying to jump and hit them. There is no doubt that they deserved the award for Best Live Band at the Brits, as well as Best British Band from NME.

2 hours passed far too quickly. I didn’t expect Muse would be such a big hit in Hong Kong, but everyone was very energetic and responsive. Being on the small side I didn’t see as much as I would like, and often found myself being crushed by jumping guys, stepping on my feet and swinging their sweat next to me. Beside that everyone was awesome and you could feel their love of the music.

It was an outstanding concert to watch and I’m glad I went. Even though Jazz has an irreplaceable place in my heart, Rock is now part of my rebellion and I wish more concerts will be held in Hong Kong (even better, in Guangzhou) so we can appreciate talented musicians. Their music is a work of art.
